To commemorate the 110th anniversary of the voyage of the Titanic, two dinners this month will give guests a first-class taste of the gilded age, without having to don a life vest.
Titanic dinner and show
The Dark Room at Saint Kate -The Arts Hotel, 139 E. Kilbourn Ave., on April 15 will have a three-course dinner that reflects dining for a first-class passenger on the Titanic.
The courses will be paired with drinks: oysters Rockefeller with Faire la Fete Brut Rosé; poached salmon in sorrel cream sauce with La Creme Kelly Ann Vineyard Chardonnay, or pan-seared tenderloin filet with Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon; and apple-walnut Waldorf pudding with the Kilbourn cocktail (Central Standard North 40 Brandy, Amaro Nonino, Stateline coffee liqueur and Scrappy’s cardamon bitters).
Each dinner reservation will include an orchestra seat at that night’s performance of “Titanic the Musical,” at 8 p.m. at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. It’s $150 a person. Reserve at saintkatearts.com/events/titanic-dinner-event or call (414) 276-8686.

All Hands on Deck benefit
The Menomonee Falls Historical Society is hosting a Titanic-themed benefit on April 28 at the Hot House Tavern, N88-W16631 Appleton Ave. in Menomonee Falls.
The evening begins with cocktails, followed by a six-course meal similar to that served in Titanic’s first-class dining hall. Dinner starts with raw oysters and mignonette sauce. They are followed by lamb tomahawk with mint sauce and celeriac, crispy pheasant with applesauce and cress salad. An intermezzo of peach sorbetto and Chartreuse gelee will be served before steer tenderloin with foie gras, new potatoes and snap peas, and the dessert of chocolate and vanilla eclairs.
Champagne is included with dinner; wine and drinks will be available at the bar.
The event will raise funds for improvements to the Old Falls Village Historical Park, with silent auction, raffles and entertainment throughout the evening. Diners are encouraged to dress in period outfits or formal black tie attire appropriate for first-class travel among high society.
Reservations for the event close on April 17. Tickets are $85 a person at the Menomonee Falls Historical Society Office or online at OldFallsVillage.com. For more information, contact (262) 250-3901 or email [email protected].

Kentucky Derby party at Maxie’s
Coming down the stretch: Maxie’s 15th annual Derby Day party returns to its full indoor-outdoor glory on May 7 at the Southern-themed restaurant, 6732 W. Fairfield Ave.
Kentucky Derby-inspired menu items will be available May 6 to 8. The party itself, which starts at 2 p.m. May 7 with food, drinks, pre-race coverage and music outdoors by the Jackson Park Jazz Orchestra, will be the biggest since before the pandemic, and it benefits Hunger Task Force. The race airs shortly before 6 p.m.
Revelers have two options for admission. The “grandstand” includes a reserved table with full service in the restaurant (with seating for two to eight people) and guaranteed views of television coverage. The donation is $35 a person, with reservations through OpenTable at maxiesmke.com. Tables, seated anytime from 2 to 3:30 p.m., are reserved until the race ends about 6. Each customer in the grandstand receives two betting forms — actually for a randomized raffle.
Entry to the tented “infield” outdoors is by $20 donation on Derby Day, where table seating is first come, first served. Customers will have access to an outdoor bar and food truck, and multiple TVs will show the race. Each donation includes one “betting” form.
The event is rain or shine, and donations for admission are nonrefundable. The donations go to Hunger Task Force, as do profits from food and drink and proceeds from raffles and silent-auction items. (Admission doesn’t include food, drink or tip.)
The party includes contests for best dressed and best hat, so wear your finest.
Maxie’s will be open for regular indoor table service after the race, until 9 p.m.; it will be closed May 2 and 9.
Milwaukee Day happy hour
Central Standard’s co-founders, Evan Hughes and Pat McQuillan, will be the hosts of a release party for their new ready-to-pour cocktails from 4 to 6 p.m. on 414 Day, April 14, at 320 E. Clybourn St.
The happy hour will give attendees a free taste of two cocktails in the new product line featuring Wisconsin cherries. The company’s Door County cherry vodka lemonade is made from organic lemon juice and botanicals, and the Door County cherry vodka mule combines Central Standard’s Door County cherry vodka with organic ginger juice and lime juice. The cocktails are 15% ABV, or 30 proof, and each 750-ml bottle makes about four cocktails. Visit: thecentralstandard.com
